As an introduction, a short review of the work in Aerospace research in the DLR Institute for Fluid Mechanics in Göttingen will be given.
The main practical background of the strong interest in vortex dynamics is the wake problem of civil and military aircraft and the noise problem of helicopters.
Experimental results for unsteady vortex generation and also unsteady interaction with airfoils show some mechanisms of round generation in detail. These results are confirmed by numerical calculations of the unsteady interactions with an Euler-solver.
Some of the mainly used experimental methods like PIV and interferometry will be explained during the discussion of the experiments as well.
